-Circle Strafing-
The core combat maneuver of a good deathmatcher, the circle strafe is basically the motion of continually circling around your opponent as you continue to fire in their direction. It's actually very easy, but practice makes perfect!
-Looping-
Instead of staying in one place (like camping), looping is the process of running from one good item to another, and then back again. Whatever enemies you encounter along the way are just taken as part of the loop, but will not stop you from continuing on your path.
-Manual Reloading-
Instead of letting your magazines run dry, try to seek cover when the clip is near empty, then reload and get back into action when you're ready. Setting yourself up behind walls or pillars is a great way to take advantage of this technique.
-Strafe Into Aim-
During the Solo-Missions this is an advanced tactic for sure. But during a multiplayer game, it's almost a necessity. You first need to master the art of prediction, and be aware of enemy locations at all times. Instead of manually aiming and adjusting your crosshair to hit enemies on both the X and Y axis (vertically and horizontally), why not limit your margin of error by only using one axis at a time. You see, if you can align your crosshair vertically, then you don't have to struggle with tracking the enemy on this axis. Now, you can just focus on strafing from side to side (horizontally), and increase your overall hit percentage by tenfold!
-Know Your Arenas-
I'm not talking about casually playing the level, picking up a few little things here and a few little things there. I'm talking about more detailed aspects like player re-spawns, weapon and item re-spawns, and any other info that will help you get a better understanding of the level. Where do people usually go on a specific level? What are the high traffic areas? Which are the most out of the way weapon slots? It's a simple tactic, yet not many people actually take the time to make it effective. Be different and take the necessary steps to build up your knowledge of the levels themselves.
-Movement Patterns-
Stay frantic, and make sure not to let your strafing or faking patterns get predictable. The moment you start going up against the better players, your patterns will be easy to read, and quickly adjusted to. As long as you stay fresh with your strafing, moving, and general tactics, it will be much harder for your opponents to gauge your style of play.
-Crouching Below Doors-
Certain vertically opening doors can take forever to open (for example: Area 52). When seconds count, it's good to get the jump on your opponent by crouching down to look through the door. If you see someone through the crack, you'll have that extra split second to beging firing away at their kneecaps. On One-Hit-Kil scenario, this tactic is a necessity!
-Charging in with weak weapons-
While it's normal to want to be part of the action at all times, it's always best to check your current situation before charging into battle. If you're using a Falcon 2 and your opponent has a RCP-120, there's not going to be alot you can do. But if you had a CMP150 or a Cyclone, at least you would be able to defend yourself. So what i'm trying to tell you is that you should check different situations as they arise, but never, charge in with a weaker weapon.
-Falling Damage-
Luckily, there is no damage taken for falling off a ledge (at any height). So if your in danger jump off those 100 foot ledges to escape your opponent if you have a weaker weapon. I think it's realistic, don't you? hehe
-Suicide Run!-
Remember, if your life is low and you can take 2 or more players out on a suicide run, you'll come out ahead of the game. This should only be done when you are almost dead. But if the situation calls for it, you're better off to pull the pin and run into a group with a grenade, hehe.
Note: This is a crazy way of playing, I suggest only doing this whenever your life is VERY low. (like one hit to die)
-Fight or Run?-
Sometimes, duel situations will arise where neither player will be the winner. Circle strafing will occur, neither player will be in control of the fight. This is when a touch of gamer's intuition will help you! If you have an easy escape route, and you know a Shield nearby, your bet would be to run and get it. Other times, it may be to your advantage to try and stick it out, hoping that you'll waste your opponent before he wastes you. Just make sure to mix up your tactics and stay unpredictable.
-Run Backwards While Shooting-
Once are comfortable with the levels (and control of your character). Running backwards while shooting is one of the very useful tips. (This tactic works hand in hand with the "Know Your Levels" tip).
-Peeping and Crouching-
These tactics are very useful in the solo missions. To peek around corners, hold the R button and press C-Right or C-Left (Depending on which way you want to peek). To crouch, hold R and press C-Down. To double-crouch, hold R and press C-Down twice.
-Disarming-
If you can't get a hold of a good weapon, why not tell your teammate to give you one of his weapons. Switch to disarm, then quickly grab the weapon and go off and kill everyone.
-Double Weapons-
There are 2 ways that you can pick up double weapons in multiplayer:
1. Pick up the same weapon from 2 different spawn points.
2. Pick up one weapon, then find an enemy who has the same one. Kill him, then pick up his weapon.
-Weapons and Item Respawns-
Weapons and items have a 20 second re-spawn, so it's very important to do an effective job in keeping track of the more powerful items.
-Shooting player's weapons-
You know that you can shoot the weapons out of your enemies hands and pick them up, right? But did you know that you can destroy some items like Grenades, Mines, or N-Bombs. Simply shoot the item and it'll blow up in their face and kill em! This also works with projectiles (like rockets) after they have left the rocket launcher itself.
-Weaker Enemies-
If you know of 2 (or more) enemies that are fighting and are near death, come up on them and kill them all before they knew what hit 'em!
Note: This is a very cheap way of playing, but its pretty fun!
-Watch other player's screens-
Watching other player's screens is not something you should do ALL the time, but it is good to check and see what they are up to every once in a while. You can pretty much count on the fact that they'll be doing it to you.
-Weapons that penetrate doors-
There are only a few weapons that penetrate doors (besides explosives), but using weapons that penetrate doors is as useful as effective. Just make sure you're not shooting at a partner on the other side! Here is a list, along with the function that penetrates (either primary, or secondary):
1. DY357 Magnum (Single Shot)
2. Dy357-LX (Single Shot)
3. Callisto NTG (High-Impact Shells)
4. FarSight XR-20 (Target Locator)
5. All explosives
-New Item Re-Spawns-
You can permanently move items in multiplayer! You can move them almost as far as you want, not just a few inches. You can physically change the re-spawn point from one place to another by shooting it until it gets to the new position. Once moved to a good spot just stop shooting it, and leave it alone. This tactic works wonders when you put a shield in slot 6 (so there is only one in the game). Then during the game, when no one is looking, you can move it to somewhere different. You should see the looks on their faces whenever they go looking for the shield.
-Explosions through walls and floors-
Whenever you know that a given player is behind a wall just waiting for you. If you're in a situation like this and you got some explosives, throw them at the wall to trigger an explosion.
If the wall is thin enough (most are) it should go right through.
-Camouflage-
If you're playing a level that is dark, you should use a character that is dark in color. If a level is bright, you should choose a lighter colored character. View it as a form of camouflage, preventing your character from sticking out.
-Farsighted!-
The FarSight XR-20 is the camper's dream come true! Grab one, get a hiding spot, and you're good to go! Use the Target Locator to find another player, then quickly switch back to standard mode and manually move your crosshair in the direction it was headed. Quickly switch back into Target Locator again, and your crosshair should be ALOT closer to your target than if you just let the FarSight do it on its own.
-Laptop Sentry Tactics-
The laptop sentry turrets are very cool, but also very cheasy. Their are ways to make the Sentry Turrets even more useful than it already is. Just follow these guidelines:
1. Always keep them full on ammo, by walking up to them and pressing the B button. Since they only have a 50 round capacity.
2. Try to stick them to walls or up above entrances to rooms. Players usually check the ground before they check the walls.
3. Your best method to destroy a Sentry Turret is to either peek around the corner and pick it off (if its in position), or just simply shoot some explosive weapons in its area. The Turrets aren't strong at all, so the splash damage usually gets 'em.
Note: You can only have one laptop sentry deployed at a time.
-Stuck Doors-
In a level with swinging doors, like facility, hide in a one door room with a swinging door. Stand right next to the door and just stay there. Since the doors swing the way you are going, people wont be able to get in. Works best with a farsight.
-Proxy Camping-
To do this simply stand in a one door room that has proxy mines in it. Throw a mine on the door and whenever it explodes throw another on to it. This is a VERY cheap tactic.
-The Clone Tactic-
To do this tactic, play against some meatsims (or whatever sims you want) and name your character meatsim 1 (or whatever sim you're playing against) when he's/she's not looking. Then you can kill him/her and he'd/she'd think it was a sim, not you. I think this is the cheapest tactic of all.
-Camping-
Camping is the act of staying in one place (usually near good items), and just waiting until other players cross your line of sight. In a free for all, you can expect people to team up against players who camp, expecially if they are using the cheap weapons like the FarSight XR-20 or the Laptop Gun.
NOTE: This is a VERY Cheap method of play! Only use it if your a newbie because you don't want to be known for camping.
-Guard the Shield-
The Shield is the one item that should be hoarded whenever possible. Camp it, guard it, eat it, or even shoot it (to render it useless if you already have one). Do whatever is necessary to keep it away from your opponents. A shielded enemy takes twice as much damage - which in
return, gives them more time to damage you!
Note: This is a pretty cheap method of play too! I just plain don't put shields in the game to begin with to avoid this problem.
